0009: Not Here
Share
She’s not staying here. If 7-year-old Everly Barker could handle a puddle puke with a magically re-assembled tomato twill, she could figure out how to get her and her roommate home from a Halloween party.
Let’s see, she and her roommate are in Irvine, so a taxi from here to LA would cost hundreds of dollars. Hundreds of dollars neither of them have.
For them, even getting a key made for eight bucks calls for a split of payment and mild stress surrounding the extra expense.
Come to think of it, Hayley still hasn’t paid her back for her portion of that key.
Not that now was the time to remind her.
The metallic pulse sizzles up Everly’s neck again.
Her eyes track the noise and land down the hallway. A colossal figure in maroon pants screams at a small woman with wings and sparkling purple leotard crouching on the bed.
Everly swivels to Hayley. “Give me the keys.”
