0020: Everly turns her head to the side in an effort to inhale unscented air. She sees Hayley, still asleep in the car. How is she sleeping through this?
“Lower down.” The officer says.
Everly places both feet back down and rubs her exposed arms. The blonde, almost invisible hairs, stick up in an effort to conserve heat. How many of these ridiculous tests would the officer subject her to?
Everly’s mind turns to a warm bath. Baths. A luxury she usually detests due to the questionable and unsanitary nature of the bottom of tubs. But she’s so cold.
The officer tells her to walk up the street, placing her toe behind her heel and then her heel behind her toe.

The officer’s gaze floats up from his notepad.
“I auditioned for that show.” Why is she telling the police officer about a TV show that MAKES FUN OF POLICE OFFICERS? A level of stupidity Everly is unaccustomed to keeps catapulting out of her mouth.
The cop blinks at her.
Everly fiddles with the hem of her dress. “I didn’t get it.”
The cop is unsure how to answer. She reminds him of his sister. The cop’s eyes shift back to the officer waiting in the squad car. The sooner he can get this over with, the better. There’s a reason he’s back there. His partner has been known to get in trouble around girls like this. The chatty ones. The friendly ones. The pretty ones…
