0035: The Other End

0035: The Other End

0035: “Got yourself locked up, huh?” Sharon asks.

Everly leans against the wall, wilting with relief. She attempts to say something, but gratitude and shame entangle themselves in her vocal cords.

“I’ll get Hayley. Don’t go anywhere.” Sharon says.

For the first time, Everly is thrilled to hear her apartment manager’s voice. Most of their conversations revolve around Sharon interrogating Everly about Everly’s potential involvement with tampons being flushed down the toilet. That or a detailed explanation of how Sharon’s sphincter muscles spasmed so aggressively last night she had to go to the ER. Again.

As she waits, Everly’s legs rap against each other. She, yet again, wishes she had some chapstick.

11:27am. She’s already missing work and will most likely be fired. She’ll need a new job to pay for all of this. How expensive is a collect call?

She’s sure Sharon will just add it to their next month’s bill. 650 dollars rent, plus a 325 dollar collect call from the clinker.

Hayley’s voice explodes through the line.
