0036: Good News

0036: “Everly? You okay? Where are you?” Hayley asks.

“I’m still…in jail.”

“I don’t remember any of this, but after you left, another cop car came. They took me home and tucked me in. Isn’t that nice?”

Well, this was just the cake. Hayley got bedside service while she was driven here.

“You still there?” Hayley asks.

Everly’s anger is tight in her chest. “I’m here.”

“Oh man. Rough, I know, right? The police brought me home, but they impounded the car. I had to handle that this morning.”

Oh, boo hoo. With a firm grip on the phone’s handle, Everly tells herself to focus. She needs to get out of here. Yelling at Hayley will not help.

“Why I am still here?” Everly asks.

“Because you got a DUI?”

“They say I have a federal offense on my record.”

“Shit. No. What did you do?

“NOTHING. I don’t have a federal offense on my record.”

“Right. Sorry.”

“They also say there’s a warrant out for my arrest.”

“WHAT? That’s crazy. Is there?”

“HAYLEY. No!”

“I’m so confused. This is so scary.”

With a hard tap, Everly brings her forehead into contact with the cement wall. So much for this number being her life line.

“But I have good news.” Hayley continues.

“What?”
